Yes, it's true.
You've seen her in various travelogues for exotic places such as Milwaukee and Grand Rapids. On February 21st, 2004 at 10:30 PM, I married Cecilia (despite her better judgment) in a private ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It was about as spontaneous as these things can get. From deciding to do it; to shopping for a dress; to tying the knot; the whole process took less than three hours.

We were married at the Candlelight Wedding Chapel, conveniently located next door to the Riviera Hotel and Casino

Our Best Man, Maid of Honor and Flower Girl were C. Bob Moats, C. Bob Moats, and C. Bob Moats, respectively. By pure coincodence, Bob was in Vegas with friends of his from Columbus, IN. When we decided to take the plunge, we pulled Bob from the video poker machines, cleaned him up and made him our witness.

Bob is a friend of mine from IU. My IU friends and I are accustomed to pranking one another pretty regularly. Bob didn't believe we were getting married, even with Cecilia standing in front of him in her wedding dress.

It has been several months now since we tied the knot and the most asked question is why it took so long to make the announcement. Quite simply put, it took this long for it to sink in that we really did it! Then we had to figure out the best way to let people know that we did something that they thought we should have done years ago without them being there to see it. In the end, a clumsy announcement like you're seeing now seemed to be the way to go.

We are now in the planning process of celebrating our union with family and friends.  My parents will be hosting an open house in Louisville for family and local friends in September. The IU crew will make the trek to Chicago in October for a small luncheon and to have the bachelor and bachelorette parties they feel they were cheated of.  Chicago area family and friends are, of course, welcome to join in the depravity.

We, of course, also did lots of touristic stuff in Las Vegas. We saw Hoover Dam and toured every casino on the strip thanks to the "lovely" weather that weekend.  Fans of my travelogues know that there is no such thing as a trip that doesn't include rain. I will  post a Vegas travelouge -- just as soon as I finish all the other website projects that I haven't gotten to yet.
