LOUIS STONE DOES RIO DE JANEIRO

The Driving Tour (Continued)

The city of Rio has a massive bay leading out to the ocean. When the Portuguese were running things down there, they created fortresses to protect the city if invaders were to try to enter. There are several of these forts all over the bay area. We visited one of them in Niteroi. We wanted to take a quick tour as Cecilia told me there was something interesting to see there. Of course, they wouldn't let us go in. Not because of security, but because they said it was wet and slippery. About when he said that, a bunch of tourists were seen milling about inside. Pointing out the hypocrisy of what he had just said yielded no results.

We went on to a place where people apparently use as a launching point for paragliding. There were some interesting ruins there as well. Niteroi is home to the Meseu de Arte Cotemporânea. It looks like a giant spaceship when lit up at night. The postcard is MUCH better.

And I bet you thought I forgot about Maracana, the massive soccer stadium in Rio. Fans of Wolverine football will be glad to know that you can squeeze more people into your stadium than in Maracana. These pictures were taken from a moving car. As you can expect, the postcard is MUCH better.
