The proof is in the pudding. While the Red Crescent bemoans the fact that we bombed their storage building, they conveniently omit the news of the previous day that the Taliban had taken over the warehouse, looted it, and moved in their heavy equipment and arms because they believed we wouldn't shell the building.
When one of our choppers went down, we rescued our guys and then blew the rest of the vehicle to smithereens lest the enemy be able to take anything of use. If a war were on our soil and the enemy had captured the Capitol, we would not hesitate to reduce our own buildings to rubble in an effort to save lives in the long run.
Reports are widespread that the Taliban soldiers and holing up in the homes of people in these 'safe zones.' You've got to give them credit, if I led an army that was massively outgunned, in this era of public opinion, I would do the same thing. I would try to protect my military assets to the best of my ability. I sense that our military isn't telling us, but they have seen recon photos showing where the toyota trucks are going and follow them with bombs. The Taliban purposely move themselves into residential areas and this is why these 'accidents' happen.
However, if I am an Afghani and the soldiers come a knockin'.. I think
I'd tell them... "I'm going out for milk, don't wait up for me" and get
the hell out of the area.
